Dungate Manor’s Cowboy Summer Fayre Brings the Community Together for Adopt a Grandparent
Cowboy hats were at the ready at Dungate Manor as residents welcomed families and local visitors for the home’s recent Cowboy Summer Fayre.
The Wild West theme went down brilliantly, with the afternoon giving residents the chance to enjoy a lovely summer celebration alongside their relatives and familiar faces from the local area. The event also raised £75 for Adopt a Grandparent, an organisation that already has a close relationship with Dungate Manor.
Adopt a Grandparent works to tackle loneliness and isolation by introducing older people to volunteers from younger generations. The idea is for those introductions to develop naturally over time, as residents and volunteers talk, share stories and get to know each other.
Residents at Dungate Manor are already involved with the programme and have formed friendships and connections through it.
That made Adopt a Grandparent a fitting choice for the Summer Fayre fundraiser. And the money raised will support the organisation’s work, giving more older people the opportunity to take part and meet a volunteer of their own.

“It was such a fantastic afternoon and lovely to see our residents, families and members of the local community all enjoying themselves together. We’re very proud of our connection with Adopt a Grandparent and the wonderful friendships and opportunities they help create for our residents. Being able to raise £75 for them while having such a brilliant afternoon made it even more special.”
The Cowboy Summer Fayre is one of many events that give relatives and local visitors the chance to spend time at Dungate Manor. Maintaining those links outside the home matters, particularly for residents who have lived in Reigate or the surrounding area for many years.
